ABSTRAK

Since it can produce reactive oxygen species and free radical compounds, ultraviolet light has

oxidative properties. Skin aging such as photoaging can occur due to excessive sun exposure.

Because of its flavonoids that function as antioxidants as well as free radical scavengers, the

usefulness of rosella petals can be used in medicine, jam, and natural food coloring. This

experimental study investigated how Rosella flower extract gel (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) affects

the expression of TNF-α and Caspase-3 in UVB-exposed Wistar rats. The total study sample

was 24 samples, with 6 samples for each treatment group Descriptive, normality, and

homogeneity tests were used in data analysis with data processing using SPSS 25.0 for

Windows. The results have shown that UVB-exposed rats showed lower expression of TNF-α

and Caspase-3 with 15% concentration of rosella flower extract gel, which resulted in denser

and filled collagen. These results suggest that rosella flower extract gel may serve as an

antioxidant that stops the expression of these two types of proteins..
