ABSTRAK

Skin, the largest organ in the human and animal body, serves as a physical barrier that protects the body from various external factors. Sharp objects, temperature changes, chemicals, and explosions can cause wounds to the skin. Cuts are skin lesions that cause bleeding and inflammation. Wound severity can be increased by infection with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that can cause infection and skin disorders. This study aims to determine the effect of green betel leaf extract ointment on the healing process of incision wounds in wistar strain rats infected with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research is an experimental research with post test only controlled group design. This study used 5 groups, namely the ointment base treatment group, mupirocin ointment treatment, 10% green betel leaf extract ointment treatment, 15% green betel leaf extract ointment treatment, and 20% green betel leaf extract ointment treatment, with each group of 5 rats. Data analysis used normality test, homogeneity test, and ANOVA test. The results showed that green betel leaf extract ointment contains active compounds of alkaloids, terpenoids/steroids, saponins, tannins and glycosides which are secondary metabolite compounds. The fastest healing of wounds infected with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria was the 15% green betel leaf extract oi n t m e n t treatment group with an average length of wound healing of 1.44mm closer to the mupirocin ointment treatment group. Based on histopathological observation of the skin, there is a significant difference in the comparison of epithelialization area and the number of fibrolast. It can be concluded that green betel leaf extract ointment is beneficial for healing incision wounds infected with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in wistar strain rats.
