NANOEXTRACT KAEMPFERIA GALANGA ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECTIVENESS AGAINST PORPHYROMONAS GINGIVALIS

ABSTRAK
Dental biofilm, with major pathogens of Porphyromonas gingivalis has been identified to be reservoir for periodontal disease. Chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2 %, and amoxicillin with metronidazole has been widely used as an adjunct to treat, however causing numerous adverse effects. Kencur (Kaemferia Galanga) in form of extract and nanoparticle is studied to evaluate optimal concentration of antioxidant capacity and to compare the effectiveness of inhibition to P. gingivalis. Nano samples are obtained from galanga extract, mixed with sodium tripoliphsophate 0.4%, and chitosan solution 1% using ionic gelation method, to ensure the suspension is stable and to prevent aggregation. Both forms indicate optimal antioxidant activity in concentration of 6,25µg/ml shown by DPPH scavenging activities and ABTS reduction test. Comparison were made between them to determine its viability, in terms of minimum bacterial concentration, as well as minimum inhibitory. The study was analysed statistically using normality, homogeneity, followed by Post Hoc Tukey HSD Test, and the results shows statistically difference (p <0.05, CI 95%), with nanogalanga exhibits better antibacterial activity compared to the extract. Positive correlation is found between inhibitory rate and concentration, the higher the concentration, the higher the inhibition is.
