YUYUN PERMATA ARNAZ (2023) VITAMIN D LEVEL AS PREDICTORS OF ACNE SEVERITY , TESIS, UNIVERSITAS PRIMA INDONESIA
ABSTRAK
Background : Acne is the most common skin condition among teenagers and young adults. It is a complex skin diseasethat burdens many patients because of its chronic nature.Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory disease of thesebaceous unit. Vitamin D regulates the immune system and keratinocyte and sebocyte proliferation and differentiation.Vitamin D deficiency may drive acne etiology.
Methods : This study is an observational study using cross-sectional data collection methods to determine vitamin Dlevels as a predictor of acne severity in patients. The study was conducted in the laboratory of Royal Prima MedanGeneral Hospital as of July 2022. Sampling was performed sequentially on all affordable populations meeting the studycriteria: 30 patients suffering from acne.
Results and Discussion: Provides a cut point value of 23.57 pg/mL, a sensitivity value of 87.5%, a specificity of 78.6%, apositive predictive value of 87.5%, and a negative predictive value of vitamin D level for predicting acne vulgarisseverity. The accuracy of vitamin D level in predicting the severity of acne vulgaris was 84.6% and 83.3%.
Conclusions and suggestions: Our study shows that vitamin D levels can be used to predict the severity of acne vulgaris. The more severe the acne, the lower the levels of vitamin D in the blood.
