THE EFFECT OF WORD-CONNECTING GAMES ON THE VOCABULARY IMPROVEMENT OF ST IGNASIUS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN MEDAN

ABSTRAK

This research is motivated by at least mastery of vocabulary of junior high school students today. This study aims to find out whether the practice of English vocabulary can be improved through the application of the method of word-connecting games in students of class VII SMP St.Ignasius Medan. This study is a class action study conducted in 2 cycles according to the Kemmis and McTaggart models. The subjects in this study were all 21 students of class VIIc with details of 12 men and 9 women. Data collection is carried out using test instruments to measure students' English vocabulary skills and observation sheets to assess the effectiveness of the process of applying word-continuing game methods that include teacher and student activities. The results obtained from this study are a significant improvement in the acquisition of students' English vocabulary comprehension scores after the application of the word-connecting games method. The conclusions that can be concluded by researchers are an increase in english vocabulary from cycle I by a percentage of 70% and cycle II with a percentage of 90%.
