ABSTRAK
Background: Temulawak contains curcumin which is efficacious as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging. Several studies have been conducted to determine the effects and efficacy of temulawak that extract components reduce wrinkles, increase collagen synthesis and suppress collagen degradation. This research aims to know the effectiveness of temulawak extract (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) on wound healing in wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).
Method: This type of research is a pure experimental laboratory research (true experimental laboratory) with post test only control group design observations. The population were all male wistar rats in Riwandi Pet Shop and Animal House Medan. This research was conducted at the Animal House laboratory of Math and Science Faculty of USU Medan from September 2021-November 2021.
Results: There were differences in the macroscopic appearance of wounds, especially in the appearance of closed dry wounds, which were only found in the treatment with 20% and 25% temulawak extract ointment. There was a difference in the mean comparison of the area of epithelialization, the number of fibroblasts and the amount of angiogenesis that received the temulawak extract ointment.
Conclusion: Temulawak extract was proven effective against wound healing in wistar rats that affects three wound healing factors; fibroblasts, angiogenesis, and epithelialization.
