ABSTRAK

Cadmium can accumulate in the renal cortex and lead to renal failure and poor reabsorption. Hence, this study is designed to investigate lemon pepper's kidney protection effect against cadmium toxicity in Wistar rats. Twenty-five male Wistar rats were grouped into five groups. Control, standard, Lemon Pepper methanol extract 1, 2, and 3 were received a millilitre of 0.5% Na-CMC, 25 mg/kg BW quercetin, 300, 600, and 1,200 mg/kg BW of lemon pepper methanol extract, respectively. The lemon pepper methanol extract was extracted by the maceration method. The intervention was performed for 14 days; at the first seven days, all rats received some interventions based on a group of interventions without cadmium administration followed by cadmium administration for the next seven days. After that, all rats were sacrificed for kidney function tests and histology studies. The BUN and Creatinine level was significantly decreased as well as increased of extract dose (P-Value < 0.05). On the other hand, at the highest dosage, this extract also rescues some glomerular structure and reduces cyst formation due to severe kidney damage. Therefore, it can be concluded that the lemon pepper methanol extract has a kidney protection effect against cadmium toxicity.
