Benzene is a pollutant that has a very high exposure to humans, and this is because it is widely used as a solvent in industries. Furthermore, this compound is known to cause cardiovascular disease which can damage the structure and function of the heart when exposed for a long time. This study aims to determine the cardioprotective potential of the ethanolic extract of Syzygium polyanthum in benzene-induced rats. This was carried out in a laboratory using rats as experimental animals. Syzygium polyanthum extract was administered to the rats according to their specific doses 400, 600, 800 mg/kgbw during 21 days of experiment while benzene given in every 3 dan 6 days. On the 21 day rats were sacrified and blood is taken directly from cardiac rat then analysis the levels of Troponin T and BNP. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of Syzygium polyanthum at doses of 400, 600, 800 mg/kgbw could reduce Tropinin T and BNP levels on rats. In addition, futher studies can be carried out on the high sensitive C reactive protein and also explore the molecular mechanism of the cardioprotective effect of Syzygium polyanthum ethanol extract.
