PHYTOCHEMICAL AND HYPOGLYCEMIA EFFECT TEST USING EXTRACT OF BARANGAN BANANA PEEL WITH OGTT IN MALE WHITE RATS INDUCED WITH SUCROSE

RICHARD GUNAWAN (2021) PHYTOCHEMICAL AND HYPOGLYCEMIA EFFECT TEST USING EXTRACT OF BARANGAN BANANA PEEL WITH OGTT IN MALE WHITE RATS INDUCED WITH SUCROSE , TESIS, UNIVERSITAS PRIMA INDONESIA

ABSTRAK

Generally, banana peel extracts are needed to develop numerous antidiabetic drugs due to their antihyperglycemic effects on blood sugar levels. Therefore, this research proposes to discover the hypoglycemic and phytochemical effects of barangan banana peel extract by analyzing the oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT) using white male rats induced with sucrose. The results showed that the phytochemical tests carried out in the experiment produced positive results on all examinations. In OGTT, the difference in blood sugar levels was insignificant from -30 to 0 minutes. However, after 30 minutes, a significant difference in the aquadest group was observed at the dose of 500 and 1000 mg/kg BW, which was similar in the group of rats treated with glibenclamide. Furthermore, the dose of 500 mg/kgBW showed the most significant reduction value (102.80 ± 5.54ab) at the latest minutes of observation, compared to the aquadest (171.80 ± 13.33) and glibenclamide (75.20 ± 6.9a) groups. In conclusion, the research showed that barangan banana peel extract could be used as an antidiabetic drug.
