ABSTRAK

AbstractBurns is one of the most frequent incidents in society, where burns are a form of tissue damage or loss caused by contact with heat sources such as fire, hot water, chemicals, electricity, and radiation. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of burns healing from methanol extract of the avocado peel by evaluating the parameters of the wound contraction and epithelialization period. A total of 25 rats were divided into 5 groups, each of which consisted of 5 white rats; the control group (ointment base), the standard group (MEBO), followed by the 5%, 10%, and 15% avocado peel extract ointment. The results of the phytochemical examination showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and glycosides, with a total content of phenols, flavonoids, and tannins from the methanol extract of avocado peel, respectively 59.55 GAE mg/gram extract, 2.96 QE mg/gram extract, and 22.63 TAE mg/gram extract. The wound contraction parameter shows a significant difference between treatments on the 9th and 12th days where the P-value <5. Meanwhile, the epithelialization period did not show a significant difference where the P-value was> 5. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the avocado peel extract ointment has activity in healing burns.
