ANTI-DIABETIC ACTIVITY OF THE ROSE PETAL METHANOLIC EXTRACT IN ALLOXAN-DIABETIC RATS

LINDA WATI (2021) ANTI-DIABETIC ACTIVITY OF THE ROSE PETAL METHANOLIC EXTRACT IN ALLOXAN-DIABETIC RATS , TESIS, UNIVERSITAS PRIMA INDONESIA

ABSTRAK

Based on the Riskesdas 2013 report, the number of DM people in Indonesia is very high. Recently, the herb is a quietly demanding drug and has a high demand in the market. The rose petal has been investigated for anti-diabetic properties. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the anti- diabetic activity of rose petals methanol extract in alloxan- induced male Wistar rats. This study was an experimental study using 25 Wistar rats. All rats were initially induced by 5% alloxan (150 mg/kg BW). After 48 hours, all rats were grouped into five different groups, viz. control (Na-CMC 0.5%), standard (Metformin), Rose Methanol Extract-I (750 mg/kg BW), II (1000 mg/kg BW), and III (1500 mg/kg BW). The treatment was given for 28 days. The results showed that the highest blood glucose level after treatment shown by the control group (280.80 ± 73.06 mg/dl), followed by rose methanol extract-II (162.40 ± 86.60 mg/dl) and I (149.60 ± 59.29 mg/dl), standard (109.80 ± 12.56 mg/dl), and the lowest was rose methanol extract-III (107.60 ± 17.50 mg/dl). Hence, it can be concluded that the methanol extract of the rose petal has an anti-diabetic effect at the smallest dose of 750 mg/kg BW.
