ABSTRAK

Obesity can cause metabolic disorders characterized by inflammatory events due to the increase of high fat diet. Given that, Rosa damascena is promising as anti-inflammatory, this study aims to find the effect of the extract ethanol Rosa damascena (EERD) to the systemic tissue inflammation biomarkers (interleukin-6). This study used an experimental method divided into 4 group which were negative control, positive control (Obesity), experimental I (Obesity + EERD 500 mg/kgBW), experimental II (Obesity + EERD 1000 mg/kgBW). High fat diet was administered for 8 weeks, whereas the EERD was given orally for 10 days. After 10 days of administration of EERD, the rats were anesthetized with ketamine as much as 75 mg/kgBW i.p. The amounts of rat blood samples were collected from the cardiac to determine the level of interleukin-6 via ELISA method. The phytochemical screening showed positive secondary metabolites. The results showed extract dose 500 mg/kgBW and 1000 mg/kgBW had a significant decrease in interleukin-6 level (p < 0.05) compared to positive control. This study demonstrates the potential ability of EERD in altering the interleukin-6 level, which might correlate to the obesity.
