ABSTRAK
ABSTRACT
This research aims to an analysis student vocabulary mastery at Eighth Grade of SMP AMALYATUL HUDA MEDAN. The method used for research is qualitative design. The data collection for this study includes observation, testing, and interviews. The samples used in the paper are 20 eighth graders, and one English teacher at the SMP AMALYATUL HUDA MEDAN. After getting the data results from the test according to Nana Sudjana and the interview of the English teacher. The results of research from tests revealed that the eight grades student vocabulary was very low with an average test score of 56.5. And results of research from interviews with one English teacher showed that the student had difficulty understanding vocabulary because of the difference between pronunciation and writing in English as well. And researchers suggest that English teachers should change the techniques and habits of learning to enter and expand the student's vocabulary and still make the student feel less bored and difficult but more profitable than learning English.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penguasaan kosakata siswa di kelas VIII SMP AMALYATUL HUDA. Metode yang digunakan untuk melakukan penelitian ini adalah desain kualitatif. Pengumpulan data untuk penelitian ini meliputi observasi, tes, dan wawancara. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa kelas VIII, dan satu guru bahasa Inggris di SMP AMALYATUL HUDA MEDAN. Setelah mendapatkan hasil data dari tes menurut Nana Sudjana dan wawancara terhadap guru bahasa inggris. Hasil penelitian dari Tes menunjukkan bahwa kosakata siswa kelas VIII sangat rendah dengan nilai tes rata rata 56,5 . Dan hasil penelitian dari wawancara dengan guru menujukkan bahwa siswa tersebut sangat sulit untuk memahami kosakata karena perbedaan antara pengucapan dan juga penulisannya dalam bahasa inggris. Dan para peneliti menyarankan agar guru bahasa Inggris harus mengubah teknik dan kebiasaan belajar untuk memasukkan dan memperluas kosa kata siswa dan tetap membuat siswa tersebut merasa tidak bosan dan sulit, tetapi lebih diuntungkan dari belajar bahasa Inggris.
