ABSTRAK
Chemotherapy drug exposure has been linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, a condition marked by peripheral insulin resistance and reduced glucose-stimulated insulin secretion from pancreatic cells (GSIS = glucose-stimulated insulin secretion). The goal of this study is to see if the ethanol extract of Curcuma provides antidiabetic and pancreatic protection in doxorubicin-induced rats. This study was carried out in mice that were given 15 mg/kg of doxorubicin and 100 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg of Curcuma ethanol extract. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Curcuma at doses of 100 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg of body weight had a substantially different activity in lowering blood glucose levels (P0.05) as compared to the negative control group, which received only CMC-Na and doxorubicin. When compared to the negative control group, which received only CMC-Na and doxorubicin, the ethanol extract of Curcuma at doses of 100 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg of weight exhibited substantially different actions to reduce HbA1c levels (P<0.05). Kurkuma ethanol extract reduced the incidence of pancreatic cell histopathological damage.
