MUSTIKA (2020) EFFECT OF VIRGIN COCONUT OIL TOWARD ANTIOXIDANT ENDOGEN AND STRESS OXIDATIVE ON RATS INDUCED DOXORUBICIN , TESIS, UNIVERSITAS PRIMA INDONESIA

ABSTRAK

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is known to have many benefits because of its antioxidant content. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of VCO in increasing the activity of the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and reducing the levels of Malondialdehyde (MDA) in rats induced by doxorubicin. In this study, VCO at a dose of 4 ml, 6 ml, and 8 ml was given daily to rats induced with an accumulative dose of doxorubicin 15 mg / kg for 21 days. During surgery on day 21, blood is drawn, then centrifuged. Serum was taken for SOD and MDA examination using ELISA and UV-VIS spectrophotometry, respectively. The results showed that administration levels of 4 ml, 6 ml, and 8 ml VCO were able to increase the value of SOD activity in rats induced by doxorubicin While the same level of VCO can reduce MDA activity in rats that are induced by doxorubicin . Based on these results it can be concluded that VCO is able to increase SOD levels and reduce MDA levels.
